Of course the customer always demands the best in its class. The Alphacool NexXxos radiators have come to compete with and to beat the best in their class and to be the best radiator in all sizes.
No more endless choices without a clear class leader, the Alphacool NexXxos is the one tool for all your needs! Alphacool has been the company to introduce new developments and improvements in the radiator and water cooling sector generally many times over the last years. All main parts, not only the fins and channels, but the chambers are also made from copper. This brings an improvement in performance where other radiators are left without a chance.
The material already gives an advantage over the competition and the inner structure is up to par with the competition. Separated chambers give the coolant a clear direction, allowing high flow rates which improve the performance of the whole cooling loop. Flat chambers on the heat exchanger increase mounting flexibility thanks to the reduced overall length. Versatile and easy mounting is one of the main points, on which the research and development department at Alphacool focused.
The chamber offers three possibilities for fitting installation on both inlet and outlet not on the NexXos ST Less angled fittings are needed, improving flow rates and offering more mounting possibilities.
Hence the radiator can even be installed in tight enclosures, where otherwise internal installation is not a possibility. The threaded opening can even be used for filling, e. Versatility is the essence of the new NexXxos series! The radiators are available in different versions to be used with mm, mm or mm fans and are available in different thicknesses. The choice of 30mm, 45mm and 60mm offers the perfect radiator for every purpose.
Even mounting and installation of fans and radiator grills is easy and versatile with these radiators: The M3 threads are standard in the radiator sector and available in all lengths at an affordable price. Even the dreaded insertion of a screw too far into the radiator does not result in expensive damage. Unlike other radiators, the NexXxos series is equipped with an internal protective ledge which stops the screw before it damages the fins.
Fin spacing is always an important factor in radiator design. The new series from Alphacool has a fin design which allows it to perform extremely well even with slow-spinning and medium-speed fans.
This is not only pleasant thanks to the fact that it avoids unnecessary noise; it also means that the choice of fans that can be used with these radiators is not restricted.
These radiators are the result of experience and powerful performance meeting future-oriented design and well-thought through solutions. Even with this, the gsg still stays ten watts under the maximum consumption of its preceding model. This should be reflected in the battery runtime.
This at least applies to high and middle load. In the Reader’s Test with low brightness it performs a bit worse than the gsg. Just under 20 minutes are not of great importance here, though. In this price category, this is definitely nothing to sneeze at, and it allows for longer work times in absence of a power outlet.
When playing back DVDs on maximum brightness, the charger does not always have to be at hand: nearly three and a half hours are easily sufficient for most films. HP ProBook b Battery When it comes to ports and connectors, the recently reviewed HP Pavilion gsg and the gsg now in the spotlight are as alike as two peas in a pod.
The number, type and position of the sockets is exactly identical. Again, we miss a Gigabit Ethernet port which could replace the in-built Fast Ethernet port.
Apart from that, the configuration is consistent and rather comprehensive for a EUR notebook. The absence of Bluetooth is also carries some weight. HP Folio 13 Battery Accessories, Maintenance, Warranty With regard to all these points, the things mentioned in the review article on the HP Pavilion gsg hold — without any limitations.
Hence, we make no words about them at this point. HP Folio Battery With regard to performance, buyers of the HP Pavilion gsg have to lower their sights compared to the g Then again, in return they save EUR The AM has two cores clocked at 2. From our point of view, the processor is well-chosen for an entry level model. The 35 watts TDP rating also fits the application area of a plain desktop replacement notebook. However, even in this price segment performance is asked for, especially if a notebook is to permanently replace the domestic PC.
This is basically a good choice. Still, one must not disregard that the in-built AMD Am is an entry level model. It has two cores with a base clock frequency of 2. HP m Battery System Performance The overall system performance depends on a wide range of factors. Influence variables are the CPU and graphics configuration, graphics card performance, and the memory interface and size. The drivers used can also have a positive or negative impact.
Thus, PCMark test results have to be seen as what they are: an individual evaluation of a particular overall system. HP US Battery. This is not surprising considering the slower CPU with only half the cores and the omission of a dedicated graphics card.
Mass Storage Another difference between the HP Pavilion gsg and the gsg can be seen in the choice of the hard drive. By contrast to the slightly more expensive gsg with a GB Hitachi drive, our current review model comes with a device providing GB disk space. This time, the hard drive comes from Toshiba and spins at rounds as its predecessor. In the past review, the Hitachi HDD did not cover itself with glory. HP NR Battery. And the hard drive inside the HP Pavilion gsg is not doing much better.
Also fair enough is the access time of The bottom line is that the hard drive has to be classified as rather unhurried. Due to the lack of dedicated memory, it will not perform just as well as a discrete graphics card with similar reference values.
The machine is neither declared as a gaming notebook nor developed for very demanding tasks in general. Processor and graphics configuration constitute a good compromise: at least at low settings, many, especially old games run adequately. The overall performance is always sufficient for everyday applications – especially when the good value pricing is considered. HP CA Battery Gaming Performance What was said about the already tested sister model is also true for the HP Pavilion gsg: It is not a gaming notebook – even less than the gsg which is simply due to the weaker graphics card.
Moreover, HP does without an additional discrete card. HP DX Battery We could not test most games with middle or high settings on the HP Pavilion gsg because the notebook does not support the resolutions we expect for this purpose. When it comes to the native resolution of x, we get a rather unambiguous picture: Modern games such as Anno , The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or F1 are only playable with low graphics settings, if at all playable.
In native resolution and high details nothing but slow flip book animations is possible. Anno for instance only runs with a meager nine frames per second. Verdict The HP Pavilion gsg’s final verdict overlaps with our verdict of the sister model gsg in many points.
The current review model too will find its buyers in the segment of price-conscious consumers looking for a good value desktop replacement. These requirements are fulfilled by the HP Pavilion gsg also in its less-featured version – at least in terms of performance and features.
Bluetooth would have been a desirable addition, nonetheless. The performance is sufficient for all everyday tasks. Demanding picture and video editing or trying to run the latest games, however, quickly show the model’s limitations. As with the gsg, the points of criticism of the HP Pavilion gsg rather refer to the “soft skills” which contribute to the overall impression of a notebook at least as much as the naked specs. HP NR Battery On the one hand, one has to mention the mediocre assembly quality which in the review model at least is a bit better than in the recently beforehand tested sister model.
On the other hand, the gsg too annoys with a rather loud but most notably pulsating fan noise. Nonetheless, the thermic design not really make the best impression.
Otherwise, the permanent throttling under load cannot be explained. And the display is still a real weak point. Positively notable is that the battery life profits from the weaker processor.
Due to it, the HP Pavilion gsg almost mutates into a long runner. In any case this means a clear improvement in comparison with the sister model. In conclusion, we end up with the result that the “smaller” gsg does its job a bit better than the better equipped brother.
In the context of the moderate price of EUR , the device has its purpose in any case. HP DX Battery. The Acer Aspire G has a better assembly quality. It has been a while since we tested a Gigabyte model. The Taiwanese manufacturer is famous for its motherboards and peripheral devices.
Gigabyte also offers a small selection of tablets and notebooks. The Ultrabook creator, Intel, prognosed a boom in the Ultrabook market in the near future and many manufacturers, including Gigabyte, are investing in this area. This hardware is high-class, which brings us to the price: starts at Euros for the UN. Other Ultrabooks are similarly expensive, so we will see what the test model can do in the following review. Our first impression is neutral: the silver-grey case is made of synthetic material and aluminium, yet it does not look as flashy as most competitors and may even be slightly drab.
Thankfully, this is very practical as dust and smudges would be far more visible on darker and even high-polished cases. ASUS G73 battery. The bottom of the laptop is made of only plastic, yet it offers good sturdiness. The chassis bends slightly under the keyboard when excessive force is applied. With the exception of this, the test model is as sturdy as a laptop with a metal chassis. This is especially impressive as the UN is a mere 2.
Overall, the test model is very mobile. However, if the display border were thinner between 1. The back of the display is made of polished aluminium, as promised by the manufacturer. This ensures that the display is quite sturdy. Thanks to the well-designed hinges, the laptop can be opened with one hand. On the other hand, when the laptop shakes, the display wobbles.
We did not find any workmanship flaws, such as, sharp edges, which results in the Gigabyte U receiving a good score in this section.
Power Consumption Thanks to automatic graphics switching, the UN should be quite conservative while idle. However, due to the two storage drives and large RAM modules, the idle power consumption rises slightly. On average, the Gigabyte laptop consumes between 9. At load, the gap widens, mainly due to the additional dedicated graphics card and power-hungry 35 W CPU of our test model.
In 3DMark 06 Gigabyte has compensated for the higher consumption by providing a strong 90 W power adapter for the UN. Battery Life A weak 44 Wh battery securely integrated provides energy to the laptop. In contrast, the inch HP Envy 14 Spectre uses a larger 58 Wh battery, which ensures longer run times. The test model runs 6 hours HP: 9 hours , which may seem a lot at first, but consider the fact that the laptop is only simulating the reading of a text file.
This will probably not occur that often in everyday use. This means that the notebook can last about half a workday HP: 4 hours and 45 minutes. This test should provide us with an estimate of the battery life while running 3D applications. Although a modern graphics card is not pushed to its limits by the outdated tool, the battery reserves are depleted after 1 hour and 21 minutes HP: 2 hours. The laptop requires 2 hours to charge fully.
Processor The Core iM is based on the same chip as the Core iU, which can be found in many of the competing models. The difference in performance is caused by the differing clock speeds. Our 35 W CPU takes the lead in terms of performance. Even in single-thread benchmarks, as well as the corresponding tests of Cinebench R10 all 64 bit – our test model scored 5, points , the difference in performance is about the same.
The UN makes the most of the maximum Turbo Boost which results in the great performance. We did not notice any drops in performance even in battery mode. Well, why not combine the two? Gigabyte has installed a GB hard disk 9. Both drives present themselves as partitions to the user and the SSD is the system drive.
The capacity is slightly lowered due to hidden recovery and hibernation partitions. This means that the user can only access about GB of the storage space minus operating system and pre-installed programs. Even the performance with small 4K files is amazing – thanks to the short access time. The hard disk, a Western Digital Scorpio Blue, can not keep up with such speeds. This makes it a good choice for storage of pictures, music and movies. Only a few, true quad-core models can beat the UN.
In everyday use, this great performance proved quite beneficial. The laptop is ready for use after 20 seconds of pressing the power button and most programs open in split seconds.
All this without the user having to sacrifice storage capacity, as the large HDD should offer more than enough space. The higher CPU performance in comparison to Ultrabooks is noticeable in our benchmarks. However, this gap in performance affects everyday use very little. The user will only notice a clear difference to the popular Core iU when running very demanding programs.
In addition, depending on the temperature, the Turbo can boost the clock frequency up to a maximum of MHz. As such, today we will limit the gaming test to a few games. We would like to mention that the graphics card is usually too slow to provide a fluid experience at the native resolution of 1,x pixels – at least at maximum graphics settings.
We picked high graphics settings, a resolution of 1,x pixels and low AA Anti-Aliasing. The laptop runs the games with these settings at: 32 fps Anno and 62 fps Deus Ex. This provides an ideal compromise between graphics and performance for each genre.
The Third-Person shooter, Alan Wake, proves to be far more demanding. The game could only run fluidly at the XGA resolution 1,x pixels and low settings.
It has barely been a year since the first Ultrabook came to the market. In this short time, numerous different models from all large manufacturers have made their way to our test table and now it is time for the Gigabyte UN although officially, it is not an Ultrabook. Gigabyte has a trump card on its side: in terms of performance, no other Ultrabook can compete with the combination of a Core iM with the GeForce GT M. The 14 inch model also has a great storage system, which provides the user with speed and capacity.
Most Ultrabooks can only offer one or the other. The UN is more than just a mobile multimedia laptop – it even fulfills a few gaming needs. Sadly, the manufacturer could not combine these interesting qualities into an irresistible package. The test model costs 1, Euros, yet it uses a display, a rickety keyboard and office-class speakers. The case, which is composed mainly of synthetic material, could have been of better quality.
Worst of all, the small 44 Wh battery does not grant this laptop, specifically designed for mobility, a lot of time away from the power socket. The Gigabyte UN is not a bad notebook. Buyers looking for an all-rounder with nice performance reserves, and the ability to run a few games at high settings, should take a look at this test model. However, if you are interested in mobility and battery life, a “classic” Ultrabook, like the Asus UX31A, would be a better choice.
Our On the positive side, when it comes to resistance to pressure or flexing of the base unit, there’s not much to complain about.
Pressure applied in small areas, as well as flexing, for example when lifting the laptop on one corner, can induce changes in the image when the screen is switched on. Apart from the shiny bezel, the case itself is made from matte plastics, and the look and feel reflect the choice of materials.
The stiff display hinges keep the screen safely in position, vibrations after adjustment of the opening angle are kept to a minimum. However, both hands are required to open the lid.
Asus AK72 Except for the 2-in-1 card reader located on the narrow, downward-sloping front edge, all ports are distributed across the two sides of the case. The back of the righthand side contains two USB 2. Asus AU36 Due to the placement of interfaces, left-handers will feel considerably disadvantaged.
Near the front on the lefthand side, there is a fast USB 3. At least, the VGA and Ethernet port are located closer to the back. Considering the business audience of the Travelmate series, a docking connector would have been appreciated, but the B has to make do without one. Business travelers might have expected a mobile broadband module, but of course, there’s always the option of using a USB dongle. Given the business focus, Acer would have done well to include further security features.
Other than the bare essentials, namely the battery and power adaptor, the box also contains a cleaning cloth and a quick start manual. A large service hatch facilitates maintenance works on the B All the relevant components, as well as the fan, can be accessed via the underside.
Thanks to the matte surface, distracting reflections are not an issue, which qualifies the notebook for extended office use. Due to the satisfactory black value of 0. Subjectively, black looks dark enough, colors are alright if nothing special, and text appears crisp. As expected, the Travelmate B cannot score highly in this category.
During outdoor use, the notebook benefits from its matte display. In the shade, the screen remains legible without effort. Under direct sunlight, however, the Travelmate B is stretched beyond its limits.
Viewing angles are what you would expect for a notebook panel. In the horizontal, almost no changes to the picture are noticeable, even at very narrow angles. Along the vertical, the range of movement is quite restricted.
Viewed from below, the image quickly darkens, and color changes start appearing when you move further out. From the top, images appear overly bright. Expect to be constantly adjusting the opening angle when you balance the notebook on your lap. System Noise Under low load, our B stays pretty quiet with maximum emissions of The noise emitted by the hard drive could not be measured, because it is quieter than the fan.
Under Load, the fan clearly makes its presence felt, with up to The relatively high-pitched, almost squeaky sound evokes memories of a hair drier, and can become a nuisance. Temperature In idle, the surface temperature remains within reason, but even here the lefthand side of the palm rest warms up to Granted, this is an extreme scenario after hours of full CPU and GPU workload, but also in light of the high values in idle, we expect the B to quickly become uncomfortable perched on your legs.
ASUS G53JW battery The temperatures on the inside of the case remained within reasonable bounds during the entire stress test, and we did not report any sign of throttling. Speakers The two small speakers are located on the downward-sloping front edge and play their sounds against the desk surface. The sound quality is biased towards the midrange and lacks basses. We did not witness any audible distortions, even when turned up to the maximum, but the overall volume is quite low.
Still, you’ll rarely find much better speakers in such a small laptop. To conserve power, the B has been equipped with a ULV processor. The measured power uptake is similar to that of the Samsung Series 9 X1B. Lenovo’s Thinkpad Xe does better on this count, but it is also much slower. We appreciate the low power use in standby and when the laptop is switched off. In this configuration, it managed a maximum battery life of just over 6.
Asus G51VX battery. Using the Classic Test of the BatteryEater tool, with maximum brightness, the high performance preset selected, and antennas switched on, we were able to determine a minimum running time of under 2 hours. Asus AN The result is a battery life of over 7 hours in the WLAN test case. Asus K53T battery. To put these figures into context, these are the battery lifetimes of the 13 inch models mentioned during the performance check: The Fujitsu LifeBook SH 3. Asus K53TA battery.
In summary, we can conclude that there is definitely room for improvement in this area for the notebook under review. Graphics output is the sole domain of the integrated Graphics Data are stored on a conventional hard disk with rpm and a capacity of GB. Asus K53U battery. Thanks to hyper threading, it can handle up to four tasks simultaneously. Asus X43 battery.
We evaluate its performance using several CPU intensive benchmarks. Asus X43B battery. Asus X43BY battery. Results from the older version, Cinebench R10 64 Bit, tell a similar story. In Single Rendering 64Bit mode, our test model scored points.
Asus X43E battery. Fortunately, the full processing power is also available in battery mode. For detailed information about the processor and its performance characteristics, please check out our feature article and our mobile CPU benchmark list.
Asus X43JE battery. It’s no surprise that a comparison with the PCMark 7 results showed a very similar picture. If applications performance is to be improved, replacing the slow rpm drive with a fast SSD or hybrid solution should be the first priority.
It is only appropriate that it comes with a matte screen and a decent keyboard, and the fitted ULV Core i3 of the Sandy Bridge generation provides an adequate level of performs as well. Unfortunately, mobility is hampered by a relatively short battery life along with a screen that is not quite bright enough. Furthermore, some business customers will be missing a complete package of security features. We are also not particularly fond of the quirky touchpad.
Asus X43JR battery. Overall, the Travelmate BMa4G50ikk is fit for mobile use, keeping the above restrictions in mind. Lenovo IdeaPad Z battery While the original ZENBOOK UX21 and UX31 were loaded with inch and inch screens respectively, both were criticized for not offering enough in the way of premium performance or features other than the thin-and-light metal construction.
Constructed almost entirely of aluminum, the UX32 is solid and durable without being too heavy. You can’t get the chassis to flex no matter how hard you try to twist it and the lid is almost as strong. Lenovo ASM 42T While we’re on the subject of the lid, the spiral etched design is surprisingly cool. It made our editors think of the ripples in a pond or the grooves on a vinyl record. The edges of the notebook are tapered to give the impression the notebook is even thinner than it actually is.
While some Ultrabooks are thin without being particularly attractive, ASUS has figured out how to combine the better elements of a thin-and-light design with premium materials and finish. HP Pavilion dv battery. We won’t spend forever and a day discussing the lack of accessibility on the bottom of the UX The unfortunate fact of life with most Ultrabooks is that there are no easy-access panels for upgrading the RAM, hard drive or servicing the Wi-Fi card.
The reason for that is most manufacturers have to use non-standard connectors on the motherboard or even solder the RAM into place in order to make components fit inside the razor-thin chassis. Just understand that you aren’t expected to upgrade this PC.
Ports and Features Another casualty of being so thin is a lack of ports; all of the side ports reside near the back of the UX32 because the chassis is too thin at the front to support even a SD card slot.
All picture descriptions are left to right. Left: USB 3. Both of these adapter “dongles” are relatively small and won’t take up much space in a briefcase or school backpack. ASUS is even kind enough to include a small carrying case for the adapters.
That being said, these dongles are probably the first thing you’re going to lose. Dell JM battery While I would only cry about the loss of VGA if I needed to connect to an old projector, my productivity on the road would be seriously impacted if my laptop didn’t have Ethernet; not every hotel has reliable Wi-Fi.
Screen and Speakers The new Although the screen is a “glossy” screen it lacks the terrible second glossy layer that many notebooks have over the screen itself. The p screen on the UX32VD means less scrolling is necessary on web pages and documents since more content is viewable on the screen at one time. Viewing angles on the display are excellent thanks to the fact that this is an IPS-type panel; colors won’t distort if you tilt the screen forward or back slightly.
If you haven’t already figured it out, this is a phenominal display. Since the screen is just The speakers are actually located on the left and right sides of the chassis right underneath the palm rest area. Fujitsu LSG1L3. The sound is therefor pushed down rather up toward the user. This is fine if you’re working on a desk because the audio quite literally “bounces” off the desk and creates an almost surround sound effect.
Unfortunately, if you’re using the UX32V as a “laptop” then the sound is largely muffled by your lap. Asus P52F battery. As long as you’re working on a hard surface the design works well and the speakers don’t suffer from the “tinniness” that is characteristic of small notebook speakers. There is a hint of bass and the speakers get loud without too much distortion.
In short, the built-in speakers are fine for listening to music or streaming video in a quiet room. Any similarly sized Ultrabook would have a hard time delivering better audio from speakers this small. Dell RX battery. Keyboard and Touchpad As with the previous UX31, the keyboard on the UX32 makes a noble effort to deliver a premium keyboard experience but it falls a bit short While this Chiclet-style keyboard has full-sized keys with a wonderfully smooth yet grippy surface, the bad new is the keys themselves lack tactile feedback the difference you feel between a pressed versus an unpressed key.
On the brighter side, the thin chassis also helps keep the keyboard surface firm so the UX32 doesn’t suffer from keyboard flex under heavy typing pressure. Additonally, the UX32 features LED backlighting behind the keyboard to help you see what you’re typing in a dark room or on a dimmly lit flight.
Fujitsu Stylistic LT C battery The keyborad backlight is indeed a nice feature, but we would have been even happier if there was one brighter setting than the current maximum brightness. The oversized touchpad has a smooth surface.
This is a multitouch clickpad; press down anywhere to produce a click. Asus LLC battery Sensitivity was lacking, some of the multitouch gestures wouldn’t work and sometimes even the left and right mouse clicks didn’t register.
Thankfully, all of these problems were corrected soon after we received our review unit thanks to a touchpad driver update that was sent via the preinstalled ASUS Live Update software. Speaking of which, the Live Update software is setup to automatically download and install updates as soon as the notebook is connected to a network.
Lenovo L09C6Y02 battery Unfortunately, most of these updates require multiple restarts and you cannot stop the update once the process begins.
If you want more control over the updates then you’ll need to open the Live Update control panel and turn off the automatic updates. Dimensions: Paired with 4GB of fast system RAM the Core i7 is more than capable of handling everyday office tasks or even more demanding applications such as Adobe Photoshop. Asus u53 battery. For those readers who aren’t already familiar with the technology, many Ultrabooks and other modern laptops use a traditional hard disk drive HDD and a low-capacity solid state drive SSD to deliver a “hybrid drive” that combines the high-capacity storage of a HDD with the high speed of a SSD.
A complex set of firmware algorithms configure blocks of commonly used data onto the 24GB SSD so it can be accessed as quickly as possible. This type of hybrid drive configuration is great when it works This is the reason the UX32VD suffers in the PCMark benchmark scores despite the fact it has better hardware than most of the notebooks in the comparisons below.
In real-world terms, this means the UX32VD takes longer than expected to start, it’s slow to wake from sleep, and some applications take way too much time to launch. Heat and Noise The UX32VD’s system fan is sealed inside the chassis with vents hidden between the top of the keyboard and the screen hinge. Warm air is pushed up to the surface of the screen as a result of the vent placement During normal web browsing and casual use the heat output from the fan isn’t an issue.
Overall the cooling solution works well. Battery Life The UX32 has an internal 48Wh polymer battery that is not user-replaceable; as usual for an Ultrabook, none of the internal components are meant to be serviced or replaced by the user. This should be a pretty accurate measure of battery life if you’re just spending an afternoon at Starbucks browsing the web and working on files in Microsoft Office. Expect to get fewer hours of run time if you’re editing HD video or playing the latest first-person shooter online with friends.
Bottom line, the battery life isn’t bad, but it’s not the best either. The beautiful p IPS display is quite possibly the best screen on any current inch notebook. The dedicated graphics mean you can play modern games or use that additional performance to accelerate graphics-intense applications like Photoshop or video editing software.
HP Compaq s battery. Unfortunately, the SSD cache wasn’t doing its job very well in our review sample, the battery life wasn’t as good as we hoped, and the lack of a built-in Ethernet jack may prove to be a problem if you aren’t careful with the included adapter. Another variant of this notebook includes a slightly faster dual-core i7 for all practical purposes, the difference between the two will be unnoticeable.
Paired with 4GB of system RAM the Core i5 is more than up to everyday tasks including the occasional foray into more demanding applications such as Adobe Photoshop. Regardless it is far faster than any hard drive.
Other highlights of the specifications include obviously the svelte dimensions and light weight but also the delightful x screen resolution a novelty in this size notebook and two-year warranty, which is longer than most manufacturers. Those needing more storage should use an external hard drive.
Heat and Noise The UX31’s system fan is sealed inside the chassis; it vents warm air towards the hinge. Warm air is wafted up the screen surface. The fan seems to be on about half the time; it is quiet and sounds like a rush of air.
The notebook chassis remains about room temperature most of the time; under full benchmark load it tended to get warm on the left side. Asus G60VX battery The chassis temperature did not approach levels that would make you think twice before putting it on your lap, fortunately. Battery Life The UX31 has an internal 50Wh polymer battery that is not user-replaceable; as a matter of fact, no parts of this notebook are. Expect to hit the six hour mark under normal usage conditions.
This is a great time and on par with competitors, including the MacBook Air. The design and quality are truly outstanding; ASUS clearly went all-out. Another major highlight of the notebook is the excellent x screen resolution which is remarkable for a I was also impressed with the good sound quality and six hours of battery life. The real downsides of the notebook concern the keyboard and touchpad; both take getting used to.
I mastered this after a few days. The touchpad needed a driver update before it became predictable, and even then it is not particularly accurate. I also wish the clicks were quieter.
Other things to consider with this notebook are the lack of user-upgradeable parts there are none and scarcity of ports that can be solved with adapters, however.

Alphacool NexXxos radiators: The one tool for all your cooling needs!

As far as Apple is concerned, the widely heralded ultrabooks are welcome to come, because Apple is already well equipped in this area. The MacBook Air 11 essentially shares all the strengths and weaknesses of its inch colleague. Acer Aspire TimelineX AST battery The unibody case is superior beyond all doubt, while the first-class input devices are genuinely fun to use even intensively ; particularly the perfected touchpad, though it is a little slimmer than on the inch model.
While other manufacturers unreservedly promote the use of processors from Intel’s standard range 35 W TDP because of their high performance, Apple has put together an almost perfect ULV-SSD bundle for these slimmer-than-ever Airs, one that can outshine everyone in the system benchmarks other than a handful of workstations and gaming hot-shots. Added to all this is a fundamental advantage of ULV technology, which is often overlooked: the notebook is for the most part absolutely silent and yet also remains at a comfortable temperature.
And the icing on the cake: you can get around hours of battery life from the 35 Wh lithium polymer battery in realistic working conditions, with a total weight of barely a kilogram and a price tag starting at euros — now the cheapest model in the Apple portfolio after the departure of the MacBook White. Thank you — no further questions. When only the price is considered, the N75SF might not seem particularly attractive.
As soon as you start to study the list of equipment, it soon becomes clear why Asus is demanding an above-average amount of money.
Naturally, a new Sandy Bridge processor model from Intel is used. The display has a resolution of either x or x pixels. The N75SF looks a bit bulky when it’s closed. The shape won’t likely knock anyone’s socks off. With exception of the metal rim, we deemed the exterior design as commonplace. Moreover, it has a sensitive high-gloss lid where fingerprints are seen very easily.
The notebook looks a lot better when it’s opened. Many silver elements significantly freshen up the looks. We particularly liked the rubberized wrist rest. Although Asus mainly uses plastic, the N75SF doesn’t feel cheap in any way. Except for the protruding drive, there isn’t much reason for complaint about workmanship, either.
The case has an overall good stability. Merely the battery’s area top and the fan openings bottom can be depressed a bit. As in many other devices, the lid is the biggest weak point. The display can be evidently warped by both hands. Another blemish: A hefty creaking noise is heard when the touchpad is used with unnaturally high pressure.
Asus ML Asus could also make improvements on the hinges. For one thing, they don’t do their work silently and for another, the base unit lifts during opening. Moreover, surface vibrations also cause the screen to wobble to an degree. The N75SF isn’t made for frequent transportation anyway. Nearly 3. Asus u52f-bbl5 Battery In order to equip the user suitably for the future, Asus installs a quad core processor into most of the N75SF models.
The Core iQM, immensely popular among manufacturers, is based on Intel’s current Sandy Bridge architecture, which boasts high performance and good efficiency. Asus AK72 The basic clock of 2. Thanks to the Turbo Boost function, the processor can however be automatically overclocked to a maximum of 2. Potential buyers who take a more careful look around will perhaps find a model with the newer Core iQM, which can clock higher by MHz, so 2.
Beyond that, all Sandy Bridge processors have the embedded graphics chip, HD Graphics , in common. It enables the notebook manufacturers to implement a graphics switch. Asus X52J Battery When Intel’s HD Graphics is active in idle mode, the power requirement is kept within manageable limits: According to our meter, the 17 inch laptop only consumes around 20 watts. On the other hand, the N75SF draws between 87 and watts from the outlet during load – an acceptable rate considering the available performance.
Any expectations put on long battery runtimes due to the Optimus Technology won’t be met. Asus only includes a 6 cell battery in the box.
It is rather weak with 56 Wh mAh. The notebook shuts down after only one hour when minimum energy saving options and maximum display brightness are used during load. Asus AK52 battery. The runtime improves significantly without Nvidia’s GPU.
While our test DVD ran for almost two hours, the laptop lasted for about 2. The battery life could only really impress us in idle mode with minimum brightness and maximum energy saving options. The hardware-friendly Reader’s Test from BatteryEater ran good 4. Although the N75SF just scrapes by a very good rating, Asus has developed a good multimedia notebook.
The great sound system is not the only unique selling point, but the high-end screen as well. All kinds of media can freely develop their atmosphere – this is what we imagine a desktop replacement to be like.
Asus has done everything right with the components. Intel’s quad core processor has a good amount of reserves and a lot of data can be stored on both hard disks 2x GB! Meanwhile, entertainment fans are supplied with a Blu-Ray drive. However, various minus points thwart a better rating. Besides the fairly high weight and short battery life, the N75SF suffers from a moderate scope of interfaces. Not to mention the poorly planned arrangement of the existing interfaces.
The keyboard is also sooner second grade, whereby the keyboard’s poor lettering and unfavorably placed multimedia bar especially annoyed us. Additionally, there is the smudge-sensitive display lid and absolutely stuffed Windows installation. Nevertheless, users who are looking for a versatile entertainment platform with good image and sound quality will find it in the Asus N75SF. So you liked the shimmering, metallic silver Dell XPS 15z, but found it just a touch too big and too heavy?
Help is at hand: Dell has just introduced the new XPS 14z, which, as the name suggests, offers a inch display and a correspondingly smaller case. The entry-level option is a iM, or alternatively you can go for the more powerful dual-core iM. While Intel’s HD Graphics takes care of graphics rendering in the basic configuration, the higher value models are fitted with the Geforce GT M graphics card and Nvidia’s Optimus.
In each case a 7, rpm hard drive is used. Regrettably – but more about that later. Asus AU In terms of price, the new Dell XPS 14z is positioned between and 1, Euros, depending on the configuration options you choose.
By means of comparison: the larger XPS 15z starts at Euros in the online shop, and can be configured up to as high as Euros. If you’ve seen the XPS 15z, you’ll already know what this smaller 14z looks like. In front of us we have what is practically a perfect copy of the larger model, with slightly reduced dimensions.
To give the details, we are talking about x x 23 mm compared to x x 25 mm, so 5 cm less length, 3 cm less width and a marginally slimmer height.
The weight: g, about half a kilo lighter than the 15z. So it’s a clear win for the 14z when it comes to portability. In terms of the materials used, the 14z also has aluminium parts which are precisely harmonised into a symphony of colours, from the silver base unit tray, the steely grey-blue keyboard enclosure – separated with a fine bar of chrome – to the dark grey display enclosure with a rubberized feel to it, and finally to the display lid itself which is silver again.
The chiclet-style keyboard with silver, backlit keys fits perfectly into the overall visual scheme. Whoever is responsible for this look should be assured of the gratitude of all design-loving customers. The XPS 14z is also pleasing in its workmanship. We could not find any varnishing errors or any other kind of weak spot, except that the joints of the parts on the back edge, around the part that covers the ports, are visible, but still cleanly finished.
Two smaller points of criticism remain for the case: the imitation plastic of the continuous central hinge is quickly recognised to be a cheap part, and the display itself also wobbles slightly after you adjust the angle. All in all though, you have to call the case a success.
Asus AM We were also curious to see what things looked like inside the XPS 14z. After a rather difficult removal of the access panel on the underside of the laptop, which in addition to screws is also secured with plastic hooks, we gained access to the internal components.
In this opened state the hard drive, as well as the sticks of RAM, can easily be removed and exchanged. It also enables you to remove any build-up of dust in the cooling fins of the two heat sinks.
As already described in the opening, the Dell XPS 14z is available with two different processors and two different graphics units. This enables us to define the upper and lower markers of the Dell XPS 14z’s power range. Both our machines rely on the Nvidia Geforce GT M for their graphics handling; it uses Optimus to automatically switch to the HD Graphics unit integrated into the processor, in an attempt to find the best possible configuration for each application situation.
In the lowest priced Dell XPS 14z, the dedicated graphics card has been left out, with the integrated Intel graphics covering everything. Asus AG And this is completely sufficient if the notebook is used predominantly for office tasks.
In fact the GT M can only top the integrated Intel solution by a small margin in terms of power. But the advantage of having the Nvidia graphics is the broad range of built-in features which really are a plus when it comes to multimedia uses audio and video. As for computer games, the GT M only gives you a noticeable advantage in a few individual games; more on that later.
The Nvidia driver support also still counts as an advantage of the GT M. On the subject of drivers: our series model of the XPS 15z had the comparatively old Our attempt to install the latest Nvidia According to information from Dell, however, the 14z should be supported by the Nvidia Verde drivers in future. In the course of our testing we also noticed that the latencies, which we observed using the DPC Latency Checker, kept shooting briefly outside of the green zone when WLAN was activated.
Without WLAN, they always remain in the green zone. This could be of interest to users who work with audio and video streaming. Our pre-sample with the basic specs allows itself around Watts in idle. Our measurement with the high-spec version with the M CPU covered the same range. Only when under the stress from our stress test does the high-spec model rise a little above the basic model with the M CPU, with a maximum of 83 Watts.
The 90 Watt mains adaptor, however, is large enough to cope with this. Inside the case Dell has included a Wh lithium ion battery, which is screwed in but can still in principle be exchanged. In combination with the energy consumption, as described above, we get a maximum expected battery life of around 6.
With realistic day-to-day usage, for example when surfing the net, a battery run-time of around 5 hours can be expected.
Asus u43f-bba5 Battery. Under stress, the XPS 14z can last for just about 1. As long as you select ‘high-performance profile’ in Windows Energy Manager, you can also avoid any reduction in CPU performance during battery use.
G73JH battery. In the ‘Verdict’ of our review of the Dell XPS 15z, which was launched in advance of this model, we looked hopefully towards the models still to come; now we are faced with the reality.
With the case, Dell has done almost everything right, particularly in terms of visual impact. The XPS 14z is every bit as stylish as its big brother, and will look good in every conceivable environment. The successful harmonising of the colours and tones together with the aluminium case makes an excellent impression. Asus K53E Battery. The first weak point is the ports; above all, the decision to place almost all the ports on the back edge, without leaving a single USB on the side, is incomprehensible to us.
This means that even plugging in a simple USB memory stick requires awkward fumbling behind the machine. If you look inside the notebook, the reason for this becomes evident as there is limited space on the motherboard, but this does not change the fact that it’s inconvenient for the user.
Asus K53U Battery. The keyboard has LED backlighting and a very generously sized layout. The touch could be considered a little unclear or even spongy depending on your preference. The second weak point is most definitely the display.
But the contrast ratio of only then hurts all the more, particularly considering the high-end image of the XPS series. It makes it almost irrelevant that the colour space is only entry-level standard, that the reflective screen surface makes outdoor use practically impossible, and that the viewing angles are not the best. Asus AK In terms of power, you can be pleased at the high performance you get from the latest Intel Core processors. The rpm hard drive does offer slightly better speeds than the usual rpm models, which shows up in the good results of the application benchmarks, but the flip side is the higher noise level that results.
It’s a mystery to us why Dell don’t consistently use SSDs for the top multimedia range of their notebook portfolio with a price to match! The graphics performance from the GT M is on the mediocre side, but the notebook would probably not have been able to take much more than this with regards to its cooling ability, as it already has problems keeping the core and case temperatures under control under stress.
On the positive side: the maximum battery life of more than 6 hours means that it meets the expectations for portability that you would have of a slim inch machine. All in all, we see hardly any advantage to choosing this Dell XPS 14z over its larger brother the XPS 15z, other than the somewhat more compact form and g less weight; the 15z has the distinct advantage, first and foremost, of a much better display FHD available , and its battery life is better too.
HP believes that this is unnecessary and equips its To compensate the rather poor performance, it excels with an extremely low power consumption and low price design. Other versions partly still use the somewhat weaker E, respectively Intel’s Celeron or Pentium processor. The list of potential competitors is a lot shorter in this price range. Besides a number of netbooks that can’t be used for comparison because of the different target group, only few such cheap models can be found in our database.
Today, we not only receive this test candidate, but two other notebooks from the manufacturer, as well: The HP and HP We also send the Lenovo G into the fight. Clear the ring for the first round! Acer TravelMate battery. The notebooks can only be told apart by their slightly different colors. Our test sample shows up in a somewhat boring black plastic coat that could have been pepped up a bit by the one or other design feature.
Rounded edges and the lack of high-gloss elements make it clear that the manufacturer has primarily focused on functionality in design. Acer TravelMate G25Mn battery. The flaws in case stability that were noticed in the review of the HP seem to have been partly eliminated.
The chassis resists even higher pressure without warping excessively or emitting a creaking noise. The 2. Its torsional stiffness could be better; both the bezel as well as the back can partly be twisted significantly. Two tightly pulled hinges connect the lid firmly to the base unit and convey a high quality impression. However, they can’t completely prevent the lid from teetering in cases of vibrations.
It’s regrettably not possible to open the device with only one hand. A few gaps could be more regular, but most material transitions and case edges are manufactured smoothly and flawlessly. Seeing that the Compaq Presario CQ57 is one of the most affordable 15 inch laptops, the available features are outstanding. Even the slightly more expensive Lenovo G is on a comparable level. The energy-efficient chips from the E series are primarily conceived for small subnotebooks or nettops.
However, some manufacturers also build them into affordable office models of bigger device categories. The E, clocked with 1. The underlying Bobcat architecture has been optimized particularly for the lowest possible power consumption as well as a small chip area. Consequently, only a very limited performance is available despite two computing cores. It can even be increased up to MHz in Turbo mode.
The biggest limiting factor is only the 64 bit wide memory interface. A second memory channel isn’t supported. The memory can be upgraded from 4 to 8 gigabytes via a second slot when required. The buyer gets a surprisingly big, GB hard disk for data storage.
Acer TravelMate battery The E’s processor performance is very modest. We only achieved points in Cinebench R10’s single thread test in the 64 bit version. That is also far below the average for cheap office devices. The Pentium P in the HP achieved a 2. This power ratio is confirmed in the multi thread test, where the Presario CQ57 finishes with points.
The increased clock of 50 MHz is hardly noticeable in our benchmarks compared to the E Acer TravelMate battery The determined performance deficit, in comparison to the Pentium processors of the Arrandale or Sandy Bridge generation, can partly be ascribed to the low TDP of only 18 watts. Consequently, the E can also be installed in small subnotebooks with a screen size of 11 inches or more. The built-in Samsung Spinpoint M8 is a conventional 2.
Only one disk is installed due to its particularly high data density. That should ensure good transmission rates. And in fact: We measure excellent read rates of up to In view of such results, the Lenovo contender and both the HP and are clearly defeated. In return, the access time of HP has reserved about 15 gigabytes for the recovery partition and another 4 gigabytes for a drive with so-called “HP Tools” from the total capacity. A special service menu can be opened with the latter by pressing a button.
This service menu includes various diagnose functions and other tools. Acer TravelMate G battery. We use PCMark from the developer Futuremark to determine the synthetic application performance.
It looks similar in PCMark 7 where a score of points was achieved. Acer TravelMate Z battery. The processor’s limited capacity is the notebook’s biggest shortcoming. No matter if surfing, executing installations or starting programs: Compared to devices with faster CPUs, such as the Pentium P, delays are not only measurable but also noticeable. In order to play high definition trailers in p smoothly, a corresponding codec and player are needed so that the integrated UVD3 video processor can take over the decoding.
Office programs are the only applications that can be used without restrictions. Complicated picture or video editing overburden the E’s reserves and should preferably be performed on stronger hardware. Delays also have to be reckoned with during multitasking. Our first benchmark is the building strategy game, Anno , released at the end of We measure the performance in the intro sequence of the demo version’s first mission.
It gives a good indication about the average performance in the later course of the game. Acer TravelMate ZG battery. It looks the same with the soccer game, Fifa We have to use the lowest detail level and x pixels to render a slightly jerky 29 fps in a running game. The frame rates can even drop a lot more in replays under certain circumstances.
The last game we assess by using the built-in benchmark is the rally simulation, Dirt 3. As before, we also had to limit our demands on the image quality to a minimum so that we ultimately achieve The E is thus only suitable for current games to an extent. More often than not, the low processor performance is limiting so that even a reduction of the resolution partly doesn’t enable unrestricted playability.
However, comparable notebooks like the HP with Intel’s P do even worse. The Presario CQ57 isn’t any different here and is content with low 7. The higher rate is especially significant for practical use. It is determined with an enabled WLAN connection and maximum screen brightness. HP’s with a Pentium P processor consumed a bit more, whereby Intel’s latest Sandy Bridge generation is on a par in this field. Acer TravelMate Z battery The power consumption increases to The manufacturer delivers the notebook with a compact 65 watt power adapter, which almost seems too big in view of the low power consumption.
Therefore, it’s no problem to recharge the battery even during full load use. Acer TravelMate battery test sample owes its remarkable runtimes to the lower power consumption. Even if the 47 Wh battery isn’t particularly big, the Presario CQ57 manages far more than 7 hours away from an outlet in idle. Reading a text document is simulated in the BatteryEater Reader’s test.
Here, WLAN is disabled and the maximum energy saving options are selected. Movies can be played via the built-in DVD drive for almost 4 hours. Like in the other measurements, HP gives up a somewhat longer battery life because the notebook automatically shuts down at a charge level of 9 percent at the latest. In return, the battery’s life expectation is increased because frequent deep discharging can damage the lithium ion battery permanently.
The affordable entry level device can score in many aspects that are frivolously wasted by other, frequently much more expensive notebooks, though it has a few weaknesses. We’ll start with the good workmanship: The case, known from other HP models, convinces with high stability, which only could be improved a bit in terms of the display. The keyboard’s good typing experience and the touchpad’s accuracy also deserve praise.
The low power consumption of only 18 watts TDP is reflected in long battery runtimes and minimum heat development. Moreover, a few games can be rendered smoothly thanks to a comparatively strong graphics unit.
The CPU’s performance deficit is all the more vast and even noticeable in routine use compared to Intel’s Pentium processors. Acer TravelMate T battery Thus, the Presario CQ57 would be ideal as an affordable office device with multimedia qualities that can occasionally be used remote from an outlet.
Acer TravelMate TG battery High performance components and moderate power consumption can’t be fused? They can when the laptop – as in this case – is equipped with graphics switching. A maximum of 84 watts during load Radeon HD M is also acceptable. The Pavilion dveg consumed a bit less power not least due to the energy-efficient dual core CPU and the screen’s lower brightness in the test. Acer TravelMate battery The battery life is still impressive in idle.
We determined good 5. It’s also possible to surf on the Internet for quite a while. A runtime of about 2. In return, one hour is possible during higher load and enabled Radeon graphics card. HP sends an elegant, well-equipped and, to the largest extent, well-designed multimedia notebook into the race with the Pavilion dvb02eg. The built-in solid state drive is another selling point: Windows responds extremely fast and booting is agreeably short. Acer TravelMate T battery. All media can be enjoyed due to the high-end screen.
The device can be used outdoors marvelously thanks to its screen’s matt surface and the great luminosity. Talking about matt: The silver case scores with good workmanship and fairly low smudge sensitivity. Acer TravelMate TG battery. Like many other devices, the notebook is very perceptible during load. A few more fan speed levels wouldn’t have hurt. Some buyers will likely also be annoyed by the somewhat spongy keys. The latter device should be considered if value is put on good speaker sound.
One year ago, Acer started the ultrabook era with the Aspire S Acer Aspire battery Especially since in How about a low-voltage Core processor in an inexpensive plastic chassis? Acceptable compromise? Or should mobility fans save for a real ultrabook? The chassis of the Aspire V is an offspring of the Aspire One , a low-end consume model with either a Pentium or a Celeron low-voltage.
Aside from the attempt to make the device look of higher quality with the aluminium pattern, the cases are identical in every detail.
Thus, our test unit also inherits the negative characteristics. Acer Aspire battery. The finish is not the glittering one of the One and with its matte, mostly fingerprint repellent surface, is fit for office use.
The display frame is still very shiny and picks up a lot of fingerprints. The battery can be removed, when using the notebook on a desk. The chassis is 24 mm 0. The display lid is relatively thin and flexible within limits. The surface on the other hand, does not give in. The hinges are tightly fixed to the base unit.
You will need both hands to open the notebook. The case is fairly stable and can. The lid does not wobble, thanks to the tight hinges, and has and end position of degrees. The palm rests and the bottom cover do not give in. The keyboard is solid and the battery does not wobble. The reason for the flexible chassis is the large maintenance cover, which gives access to the whole interior.
But it can hardy withstand tensile forces. The lid and base unit are clamped together firmly. The hinges hold the base unit and the lid tightly together. The cheaper ultrabooks from Euro rely mostly on Core i3 M. Acer Aspire PG32Mnsk battery. The 17 W processor TDP belongs to the ultra-low-voltage category and is thus suitable for small subnotebooks.
Processor Has the Core i5 really the same performance as in the The Cinebench R The cooling system of the small chassis manages to keep the temperatures within the Turbo limits. Acer Aspire G battery. The same goes for the Cinebench R Here the above mentioned Samsung scores 1,07 points. De facto there is no difference. It gets even better: On battery power the user does NOT need to give up performance.
The R The i3 is still the faster alternative to the Pentium in the Aspire One Storage Devices Regardless Core i3 or i5, a significantly greater impact on real operating speed has the hard drive. When purchasing, users should note the seven millimetre installation height. On battery power this makes it somewhat more hesitant, but the Cinebench R Gaming Performance Acer Aspire G battery The integrated graphics card is enough for the occasional game, if the user can make do with reduced resolution and deactivated anti-aliasing lower details.
The performance, compared to technically identical ultrabooks, is rather poor; the HD always fall short of the expectations. The power consumption in office use is between 9 and 25 W, depending on the energy profile, brightness, and the activity of the wireless modules. The difference is not significant, especially since no customer buys a notebook for its power consumption when plugged in. The 65 W power supply is oversized for this energy consumption.
But this way there is sufficient power left for charging the batter, even under high load. Acer Aspire V3 battery. Battery Life The 37 Wh battery 4 cells proved to be what we expected, because of its lower capacity, and these are no record runtimes.
The vast majority of Acer Aspire G battery In idle the This is even a bit more than the Pentium based Aspire One The WLAN surfing test shows a more practical result. Acer Aspire battery With a 48 Wh battery, the The customers would have surely tolerated a battery sticking out.
In comparison the APU system tend to perform better, mainly because the manufacturer has equipped them with larger batteries. The hours of the Samsung U1A But with theses lower-priced devices, the user must take into account the lower processing power.
Acer Aspire Z battery. Small notebook, big punch? Not completely true. We must disappoint those seeking a good price-performance ratio in the Acer Aspire V Sure, on the performance side the This was expected, since the Core i5 U is the same processor as in most of these.
Then the descent begins, at which end lies a good, but in some details negative, rating. Flexible chassis, weak key feedback, only three hours battery life, and high temperatures under load. The most criticism goes to the glare type panel with narrow viewing angles and low brightness. Those who rarely use the It has similar performance up to the HD Graphics , longer battery life, matte display, and a better keyboard at a lower price.
According to Acer, the TravelMate P range was made for daily use and is suitable for business users as well as demanding private users alike. This impression virtually imposes itself on you when looking at the laptop. The tech specs also let you conclude this.
Our test device is powered by Intel’s Core i5 M dual core processor. It is supported by 4 gigabytes of working memory. Data and applications are stored on a gigabyte hard disk. This array is complemented by a DVD burner. Acer Aspire ZG battery. Acer’s TravelMate PMG50Makk is a member of an almost extinct species: A laptop that does not feature any glossy components whatsoever including the screen.
The entire case features matte black plastic. Merely the lid’s back is made of aluminum. No frills or other elaborate ornaments were used. It is obvious that the laptop was made for working. Acer Aspire battery The base unit hardly yields under pressure.
Even the area above the optical drive defies pressure quite well. Overall, the casing makes a solid impression. It is possible to warp the lid slightly. The hinges keep the lid firmly in position and are neither pulled too tight nor are they too loose and only allow the lid to rock marginally. It is even possible to play games on the laptop – although only to a certain extent. It sports a docking port, a better keyboard, more interfaces, a fingerprint reader and TPM.
It costs approximately EUR Acer Aspire G32Mn battery. The CPU’s clock speed is 2. The clock can be increased to 2. The CPU cores are accelerated automatically. This behavior does not change on battery. The CPU also finished the Cinebench tests with its full clock. The results are on a par with other laptops featuring Intel’s Core i5 M processor, e. Acer Aspire G50Mn battery. Surprisingly, the laptop is also inferior in Cinebench 10’s GL tests. Cinebench R Acer Aspire battery This explains the different results.
The routine work speed is satisfactory. The system runs smoothly. The PCMark benchmark scores are on the expected level and thus in the field of other laptops sporting similar equipment. It reaped in a considerably lower score in PCMark Vantage. The hard disk features a memory capacity of gigabytes and works with a speed of revolutions per minute. The average transfer rate of The access time of Acer Aspire G50Mn battery A motion sensor is to protect the laptop’s user from data loss.
This is to prevent damages to the hard disk and consequently loss of data stored on it. Acer designed the TravelMate P as an Office machine. Therefore we would have expected that focus is placed on the hard disk’s speed and not on the largest possible memory capacity. A rpm hard disk, if not a low-capacity solid state drive, would have been perfect for the laptop and even let it stand out from the competition.
The DirectX 11 capable graphics chip operates with a speed between and MHz. This GPU is Intel’s latest top model and is appropriately well-equipped. The test results reflect this. The games we tested could be played smoothly in a low resolution as well as low quality settings – excepting for Battlefield 3. Acer Aspire GG50Mn battery. Its noise ranges between The noise increases to Even during full load Prime95 and Furmark run simultaneously , the noise level of It produces a lot more noise during load.
Lenovo’s ThinkPad Edge E generates much less noise than either contender over the entire load range. Acer Aspire GG32Bn battery. The laptop reached temperatures between 25 and 33 degrees Celsius on both its top and bottom.
The temperatures only increased moderately to rates between 26 and 34 degrees Celsius during load. Thus, the laptop allows working pleasantly in every state and it can be placed on the lap without hesitation. Both CPU cores persistently operated at full speed 2. The same was true for the GPU. We also observed this behavior on battery power. Ergo, throttling did not occur. The temperatures settled to approximately sixty degrees Celsius.
We measured a power consumption between 6. We recorded a power consumption of The TravelMate P consumption of Acer Aspire GG50Mnck battery. We determine the maximum runtime using BatteryEater Reader’s test. The screen is set to minimum brightness, the energy savings profile is enabled and the wireless modules Wi-Fi, Bluetooth are disabled. We determine the minimum battery runtime by using BatteryEater’s Classic test.
Here, we set the screen to maximum brightness and enable the high-performance profile and wireless modules. Websites are automatically opened every 40 seconds via a script in this test. That is just long enough for watching two movies. The wireless modules are disabled and the screen is set to maximum brightness for the DVD test. We use the energy saving profile or a higher profile should the DVD not be rendered smoothly in this test.
Acer Aspire Z battery The battery life of the four laptops can be compared well with each other since they all use a 48 Wh battery. The laptop features a matte, solid casing as well as a matte screen. The power consumption is compelling and the resulting battery runtime is also very good. Moreover, the laptop runs quietly most of the time. However, Acer does not hit a home run with the laptop.
Like so many other laptops, the TravelMate P only has a moderate, contrast-poor screen. Acer Aspire battery If you put value on a significantly better screen, you will have to dig deeper in your pocket and for example invest in Fujitsu’s LifeBook E or HP’s ProBook b. Acer also waives on a faster hard disk in favor of a hard disk with a higher memory capacity.
If you can accept these restrictions, you will get a laptop that can cope with common application scenarios. Overall, both devices are mostly on a par. The g7-models thereby serve as inexpensive desktop replacement notebooks.
We had to criticize the weak display and the poor assembly quality. In addition, there were an unexceptional battery life and and an annoying fan. On the plus side, the device could score with its well-thought-out configuration and sufficient performance.
Also good were the speaker and the rather thin case, weighing just under three kilograms. A special feature of the gsg was its dual graphics solution based on AMD’s crossfire technology.
Naturally, the aim is to improve 3D performance. In our review, however, this promise could not be fulfilled by the Pavilion. With the HP Pavilion gsg, another series model faces up to our tests. On the outward appearance, the gsg is indistinguishable from the gsg. Both come with a In the course of this review, we will deal with further differences. Therefore, all the positive and negative verdicts of the past review apply to this review as well.
Thus, we still find fault with the admittedly optically appealing chassis which unfortunately consists almost entirely of very reflective plastic. However, the current model turns out to be of a slightly higher quality than the g review model. HP ProBook s Battery The fit and finish is a bit steadier, and the scratching noise from the optical drive region is notably less prominent; perhaps a typical case of model variation.
Positive aspects like the rounded edges, the moderate weight and the pleasantly slim case are things the Pavilion g has in common with its brother. Temperature In measuring the temperature, it is positively noticeable that HP did not fit a dual graphics solution but a slightly weaker processor in the Pavilion gsg, whereas its TDP of 35 watts is identical to the AM-APU from the gsg.
HP ProBook s Battery Therefore, the partially significant differences in the heat emissions can only be explained with the omission of the second graphics card. Generally, in almost all measurement points it is considerably cooler than its expensive sister model.
Solely in idle mode, the gsg’s palm rest becomes marginally warmer but it always stays within a scope comfortable for the hands. HP ProBook s Battery. Less comfortable is that in our stress test with Furmark and Prime95, the CPU starts throttling already after a few seconds, thus running at a lower clock rate than in the base setting. The core clock rate regularly falls as low as MHz.
HP ProBook s Battery As a direct follow-up to our stress test lasting several hours, we conducted a 3DMark test which, however, had almost the same result as in cold conditions. In everyday use, the throttling therefore should not lead to noticeable loss of performance. Power Consumption As for the HP Pavilion gsg, for the review model gsg too, a lithium-ion battery with six cells providing 47 Wh is used by the manufacturer.
Compared to the preceding model, power consumption in idle mode is on a very similar level. Under load, when processor and graphics are fully stressed, power consumption rises to up to Even with this, the gsg still stays ten watts under the maximum consumption of its preceding model.
