For image manipulation I’d doubt you’d want anything else. And if, like me, you have a a fascination for the big wide world, then the Photomerge capability is, by itself, good enough reason to buy the software. Be warned though, if you don’t already have a printer that can handle panoramic paper, you’ll soon be buying one First, I have to agree that this product is excellent – I use it myself.

But having just spent a couple of days using Photoshop 8. The answer is twofold – batch processing and the Healing Brush. If you’re the owner of an expensive film scanner and spend days processing photographs – and particularly removing dust and hair marks from your images, you will find the Healing Brush is your best friend, replacing the Clone for most functions by producing literally invisible repairs for almost any small blemish in the photograph.

Batch processing will help you take those 50 photographs, change their resolution, paper-size, fit borders on, create JPG files all without having to manually open a drawing.

And it’s far more flexible than this suggests. And there are lots of nice features for the professional like the production of Duotones, channel processing, etc. As with Photoshop Elements, it’s possible to download a copy for a trial period from their site, so if you’ve a hope of affording the very steep price of Photoshop CS, I say try the stuff out! This is a great piece of software as what is does is basically use the best bits from adobe photoshop 7 latest and best art package there is around and adds teh easy ways for you to retouch things such as photos and portraits, It has one really cool function in my eyes and that is the way you can apply filters to your images like in all other adobe applications but in this package it gives you a good explanation of what the filter will do to your picture and will show you a smaple that it is applying the filter too on the fly and this in my eyes looks great and makes you want to sit there for a good while longer to test out all of the filters with it.

Not only does the filter thing stop there either tho! Oh NO! You can then download free filters off the web from adobe themselves and other unoffocial sites, there are many many sites around too the help with all the tools and filters too and will help on any requirement as adobe is the market leader and is what the best of the rest normally use. You wont go far wrong at all with this peice of software as it will teach you how to use it to its full potential so long as you have the time to do so.

A must buy for any one who gets alot of red eye they want rid of before developing there pics or simply the person who a full graphics repro house in there house.

I’ve now been using Photoshop Elements 2 for a couple of weeks and love it. I run it on Mac OSX It’s a bit on the slow side to launch compared to Graphic Converter for example , but once it has loaded it’s nicely responsive. Photoshop Elements isn’t as simple as Apple’s “i” apps iPhoto, iTools etc , instead it’s a mass of menus, icons, buttons, sliders and more; which is just what you’re going to need to tweak your digital photos or create professional looking graphics from scratch.

A tip for Photoshop newbies – read the chapter about “Layers” in the manual as soon as possible. Understanding Layers early will make using the software easier and more rewarding. Resist temptation, get yourself a copy of Photoshop Elements.
