This year’s was a major disappointment, however. Most of the negatives that have been covered in the reviews for the and Playstation versions are applicable here. For example, the frequency with which you are attacked. The animals attack so often, and without provocation, it would seem that they must all have rabies! A few additional observations: – There are omissions in the manual. For example, I have not yet seen it stated anywhere that you must press the E key to start the dogsled race.

It’s frustrating to sit there and try to get them to go with the directions you have – they just yap. Another omission – you can go back to the outpost and save your progress – even after you have been, yet again, “killed. I ran into both these points on gamefaqs posts – not on anything from Cabela or Activision.

It works only occasionally, no matter what you do; it’s cumbersome, frustrating, and irrelevant to flycasting. And you need to catch the fish to complete the silly game!

However, in the last contest, the shooting marathon, you are attacked by one savage animal after another! How would this be possible? Infect a variety of animals with rabies and release them one at a time at contestant???

I found this contest nasty and repugnant. The variety of regions and game is pretty good, and the scenery is lovely. Some of the concepts, such as the waterfowl hunting, are enjoyable. Those are the only positives I can come up with. I just got the game, so maybe I haven’t figured everything out yet, but what’s with the ultra-agressive animals? There’s no time to hunt, you’re too busy defending yourself. The animals are everywhere, no need to lure them in, and they invariably charge.

The audio has no directionality I play with headphones , so every time you hear the crazed grunting of a moose who’s bent on running you down you have to scan in all directions and hope you can spot him before he kills you. The environments are very pretty, but small. The vehicles are irrelevant because you can walk from one end of the map to the other in minutes.

Ambient sounds are not well developed, and neither are the animal calls. Each species has one sound that it makes over and over again with no variation. Can anyone reccommend a game that provides a more realistic and detailed hunting experience?

One where patience and stealth count? Runs great on my GTX This game is great, even runs well on my GTX , if you love hunting, get this game. I really like the concept. Good challenges. The game locks up consistently right after the first career hunt. That is annouying.

It is a challenge to stay alive long enough to get some hunting in! The animals are bent on killing you from the instant you begin the hunt. At times I have been killed within the first 3 minutes If you can stay alive long enough to get a good shot in, then you had better run back to cabin ASAP Consider that you can take down 3 or 4 attacking pack animals and then have the 4th or 5th one take YOU down It is like a war zone that bears not much resemblance to the hunting that I have been on.

If you were a consider of games from the sixth generation of gaming onwards, you’ll probably be aware of Activision and their niche licenced hunting game series Cabela’s Big Game Hunter. Cabela’s Big Game Hunter: Pro Hunts adds to this long list of titles with a game that pushes the game forward into the seventh gen.

This game plays much like the rest of the games in the series. Except this one has less terrorist enemies and more bears and deer. This game meshes realism with an arcade feel and does so rather successfully. The game really has its roots firmly in the hunting world. The arguably questionable pastime has a lot of nuance to it and this title manages to capture an awful lot of that in the gameplay.

Players are able to load out with different weapon and ammo types that are more suited to different species of animal. Not to mention a GPS that will help players locate animals by showing they most likely congregate.

The animals themselves also have quite advanced mechanics too. Their body language is very well captured. They will show signs of fright or suspicion as well as a relaxed nature perfect for the hunter to take advantage of. Not to mention that animals will give off unique scents that the hunter can use to track their game. The game does a great job of balancing the open sequences so it allows new players to the series a chance to get their bearings.

All the while, not holding returning players back from getting straight into the action by showing them the new tricks the title has to offer. Keeping them engaged until the real hunt begins. There is also pointers and a guiding commentary as you hunt from professional hunters within the community.

Which although sometimes intrusive and preachy, does help new players get the job done without altering any targets to their whereabouts. This game series has often been praised for its replayability and its cooperative aspects. So it will come as a surprise to long time fans that neither of these is present in this outing.

The game has a short run of missions that once completed are unable to be replayed. The game points you toward a free hunt mode instead but the objective heavy and structured levels clearly offer the better experience. Then to rub salt in that wound, you have to do this alone. There is no ability to hunt as a group with friends.

This is a solitary experience and with the long and arduous periods of stealth and skulking around, this can become a mundane and rather lonely experience.

The game doesn’t bring the series into the next generation with a shiny new coat of paint. It offers a better art style for sure, though this leads to lower frame rates and performance issues. Plus a lot of the textures present are still not brilliantly imagined and are generally inconsistent throughout. The sound quality does an awful lot to help patch over this issue. With sounds and ambient noises of the wild that really do give an authentic feel of nature. It does wonders for players seeking immersion.

Though its a shame the visuals couldn’t compliment this. This game has a lot of qualities that make it by far and away from the best hunting game on the market for this time.

Though as you would imagine, there isn’t a lot of competition and when comparing this with a top-end FPS title, it falls well short of the mark. Unique mechanics, professional commentary and ambient sounds do elevate this game to a level where those who are interested in the sport of hunting will really appreciate this title.
