As far as I know, the desktop alerts will only pop up when you receive a new email. Since you mentioned that the notifications are old or already read emails.

Since the issue appears randomly and we cannot reproduce it, you can create a new profile to see whether the issue can be fixed. Please don’t delete the old profile. For your reference:. If it is possible, you can add your account to other Outlook client to see if the issue is related to your account.

Have you tried to create a new profile? In Outlook, POP3 has a setting to leave a copy of the email on the server, but this seems to be ignored by the Gmail server. The overall interpretation is that when the system is too busy, that Outlook is failing to download my emails before some kind of POP3 status change is made on the Gmail server. Perhaps there is an outlook pop3 log which will show me what their system has done and what rules have been run.

Both Interfaces always show the same data and I cannot see any difference between the iPhone and the Web browser, except that the iPhone app calls the Trash folder as Bin.
